Description

These Sheet Pan Tacos are a quick and easy weeknight dinner option, combining seasoned ground beef, sautéed onions, and melted cheddar cheese perfectly baked in crispy folded tortillas. Ready in just 30 minutes, they offer a delicious taco experience without the mess of frying, making them a convenient and crowd-pleasing meal for six servings.

Ingredients

For the Taco Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1-2 Tablespoons taco seasoning, or more to taste
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Tacos

  • 6 6-inch tortillas (corn or flour, see notes)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, or more to taste
  • Olive oil for spraying or brushing tortillas

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook ground beef and onions: In a medium-sized skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until onions are softened and the beef is thoroughly cooked. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Season the beef: Drain excess fat from the skillet, then stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning along with 1/4 cup of salsa. Adjust seasoning as needed to reach your desired flavor.
  4. Prepare tortillas: Lightly spray or brush both sides of the tortillas with olive oil to help them crisp up in the oven.
  5. Assemble tacos on baking sheet: Place the oiled tortillas on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1/4 cup of the taco meat mixture onto one half of each tortilla, then sprinkle 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat. Fold each tortilla in half to enclose the filling.
  6. Bake the tacos: Bake the folded tacos in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Using a spatula, carefully flip each taco and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the tortillas are crispy and golden. Optionally, add extra cheese on top of the tacos after flipping and bake for the last 5 minutes to melt it.

Notes

  • You can use either corn or flour tortillas based on your preference; both work well in this recipe.
  • Adjust the amount of taco seasoning according to how spicy or mild you prefer your tacos.
  • Adding cheese on top after flipping creates a deliciously melted topping, but feel free to skip this step if desired.
  • Serve with your favorite taco toppings like sour cream, avocado, cilantro, or diced tomatoes for extra flavor.
