Description
This Spicy Tuna Melt Wrap is a quick and flavorful meal perfect for lunch or a light dinner. Creamy tuna mixed with crunchy water chestnuts and a spicy kick from sriracha and chili crisp is wrapped in a soft tortilla with melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese, then toasted to golden perfection for a crispy and melty finish.
Ingredients
Tuna Filling
- 1 (5-6 ounce) can tuna, drained and flaked
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup finely chopped green onions
- ¼ cup chopped water chestnuts
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1 teaspoon sriracha, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon chili crisp/chili crunch, or to taste
Wraps
- 2 large flour tortillas or wraps (about 10-inch diameter)
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- oil (such as avocado oil) for toasting
Instructions
- Make the tuna filling: In a bowl, combine the drained and flaked tuna with mayonnaise, finely chopped green onions, chopped water chestnuts, soy sauce, and sriracha. Mix thoroughly until well combined to create a creamy, flavorful filling.
- Assemble the wraps: Lay the tortillas flat on a clean work surface. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over each tortilla. Spoon the tuna filling into a row slightly below the center of each tortilla, then drizzle the chili crisp over the tuna for added spice and crunch.
- Roll them up: Fold the sides of the tortilla inward, then tuck the bottom edge over the tuna filling and roll up tightly like a burrito, securing the fillings inside by tucking in the sides as you roll upward.
- Toast: Heat a thin layer of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place each wrap seam-side down in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy, pressing gently with a spatula occasionally. Flip the wraps and toast the other side until similarly golden and the cheese is melted. Alternatively, use a sandwich press or panini press and toast seam-side down until golden brown and melty on the inside.
- Serve: Remove the wraps from the heat, slice in half, and serve immediately while warm, crispy, and gooey with melted cheese.
Notes
- You can adjust the level of spice by varying the amount of sriracha and chili crisp to your taste.
- Using a sandwich press is a convenient alternative to pan-toasting and ensures even crisping and melting.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the flour tortillas with gluten-free wraps.
- Water chestnuts add a nice crunch but can be omitted or substituted with chopped celery for texture.
- If you prefer, swap mayonnaise for Greek yogurt to reduce fat content.
