Description

Tomato Tulip Crostini is a delightful and visually charming spring appetizer featuring crisp baguette slices topped with creamy herbed cheese and grape tomatoes artfully cut into tulip shapes. Perfect for entertaining, this easy recipe combines simple ingredients for a fresh and elegant bite.

Ingredients

Bread and Seasoning

  • 1 baguette
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil, for brushing
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 garlic clove, cut in half

Toppings

  • 10-12 grape tomatoes
  • Boursin cheese or soft herbed goat cheese
  • Chives
  • Optional: microgreens or small basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Slice Baguette: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette on a slight diagonal into ½-¾ inch (about 1.5 cm) thick slices. Arrange the slices in a single layer on a large baking sheet, aiming for about 20-24 slices.
  2. Bake the Garlic Crostini: Brush the top of each baguette slice with olive oil, then sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes until the crostini are golden and crisp. While still warm, lightly rub the cut side of the garlic clove over each slice to impart a subtle garlic flavor. Allow the crostini to cool.
  3. Make the Tomato Tulips: Slice the grape tomatoes lengthwise in half, using one half per crostini. With a small, sharp paring knife, cut simple tulip shapes into the top edge of each tomato half by making a small “V” shape for two petals or two small “V”s for a three-petal tulip design.
  4. Assemble the Crostini: Spread a generous layer of Boursin or herbed goat cheese onto each cooled crostini. Position a tomato tulip near the top of each crostini, leaving space underneath for the stem. Cut chives into small lengths to serve as stems and place beneath the tomato tulip. Add additional chive pieces for leaves or substitute with microgreens or small basil leaves as desired.
  5. Serve: Arrange the finished tomato tulip crostini neatly on a serving platter and serve immediately. This fresh and festive appetizer is perfect for spring gatherings and entertaining.
