Description

These Tuna Melt Sliders are the perfect savory snack or meal, combining creamy tuna salad with melted Colby Jack cheese on soft Hawaiian slider rolls. Easy to prepare and baked to golden perfection, they deliver a deliciously melty and flavorful bite-sized treat ideal for gatherings or family dinners.

Ingredients

Sliders

  • 12 Hawaiian slider rolls still connected

Tuna Mixture

  • 2 cans (12 oz each) tuna, drained
  • ¼ cup chopped celery
  • ¼ cup chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 Roma tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Cheese & Topping

  • 12 slices Colby Jack cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray an 8×13 inch casserole dish with nonstick spray to prevent sticking and help with easy cleanup.
  2. Make tuna mixture: In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped celery, red onion, sweet relish, mayo, lemon juice, chopped Roma tomato, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined and set aside to maintain freshness.
  3. Assemble sliders base: Place the bottom half of the Hawaiian slider rolls into the bottom of the prepared casserole dish, keeping them connected to maintain structure during baking.
  4. Layer sliders: Begin layering your ingredients over the bottom buns by first placing 6 slices of Colby Jack cheese evenly over the buns. Then spread the tuna mixture over the cheese layer. Next, add the remaining 6 cheese slices on top of the tuna mixture. Finally, place the top halves of the slider buns on top to complete assembly.
  5. Butter and season tops: In a small bowl, brush the melted butter evenly over the bun tops. Sprinkle the garlic powder over the buttered tops evenly to enhance flavor and aid in browning during baking.
  6. Bake sliders: Bake the assembled sliders uncovered in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bun tops are toasted, the cheese is melted, and the sliders are heated throughout.
  7. Garnish and serve: Once baked, sprinkle the chopped chives over the sliders for a fresh, colorful finish. Allow the sliders to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving to prevent filling spill-out and enhance eating experience.

Notes

  • Drain the tuna thoroughly: Removing as much liquid as possible keeps the tuna mixture thick and prevents the slider buns from becoming soggy.
  • If possible use sweet Hawaiian rolls: Their soft texture and slight sweetness balance the savory tuna and melted cheese perfectly.
  • Layer cheese on both sides of the tuna: Placing cheese under and over the tuna mixture helps hold the sliders together and creates extra melty goodness.
  • Fill the sliders evenly: Keeping the tuna mixture evenly spread prevents the filling from spilling out while baking and eating.
